Instructions for the final weeks

With the hybrid nature of this course, the final paper will be part of the non-in-person segment. It's especially important, therefore, to make maximum use of this last in-person week. On Wednesday, I'll go over the readings and topics for the final three weeks, and you should send in your outline or rough draft as soon as possible. You can e-mail it to me at rpotter@ric.edu, or bring a printed paper copy to either Monday's or Wednesday's class. Also on Wednesday, I plan to end our main class discussion early; I'll then meet one-on-one with every student who wants to, in order to go over your draft and topic. My aim will be to give you feedback, recommend sources and ways to develop your ideas, and leave you with a clear sense of the direction you're going.

During these weeks, I may have somewhat limited access to e-mail, but I will at least be able to check it once daily. It's important, though, that from this point forward you paste your paper's text into the e-mail, as I may not have the ability to open attached files. The final paper is due on what would be our last class meeting, Wednesday August 1st. I will acknowledge receipt of all papers.

For both the Gogol reading and the Aladdin one, the weekly blog posts will appear automatically at 7 a.m. on Monday July 16th and 23rd.  The online component of the blog responses is especially vital in a hybrid class of this nature. There are a total of five responses due by the end of the final week; it's not too late to make up for missing earlier post. All blog entries will remain open for comments through Friday August 3rd. If you encounter any technical difficulties, you can always e-mail your response to me in text form.
